The festival season at Crystal Palace Park got under way with the Wireless Festival on 1, 2 and 3 July. Feedback from residents suggest that the Festival was better managed than in 2021. In a survey carried out by the CPCA last year, only 26% considered that the Festival was well-managed then, and only 10% felt that consultation with the local community was adequate. This year, Wireless organisers Festival Republic promised to be ‘good neighbours’ and took steps to address traffic management, noise, and debris and urination in surrounding streets. Are Festivals the future for Crystal Palace Park?
The Crystal Palace Park Trust is due to take over day-to-day running of the Park from Bromley Council. It has stated that, in order to provide sufficient income for maintenance and much-needed improvements, it is essential that the Park hosts large scale events such as the recent South Facing and Wireless concerts. The Wireless event caused major disruption across the Crystal Palace, Anerley, Penge and Upper Norwood areas and residents have expressed strong views both in support of and against future major events. TRIANGLE PROPERTY DEAL
The trade press reported recently that property company Navana had acquired 40 properties in the Crystal Palace triangle, including two office buildings and the Haynes Lane market complex. MCDONALDS ‘FOOD FACTORY’ FOR WESTOW STREET
McDonalds have applied for permission to change use of the old Living Water Satisfies cafe in Westow Street on Crystal Palace Triangle from A3 (food and drink) to A5 (hot food and takeaway). Plans for the new business are detailed in their application, available on the Croydon Council website. The proposed operation will be a 7 day per week, 24 hour per day takeaway, not a restaurant. There will be no customer seating and no customer toilets. Unsurprisingly, the business has been described as a food factory.
