Plans submitted for NSC renovation

A detailed planning application has been submitted on behalf of the GLA, the National Sports Centre’s owners, to Bromley Council for the long-awaited redevelopment of the site.

The plans are ambitious and wide-ranging.  Inside the NSC building itself, the 50 metre pool will be restored.  Partitioning wet and dry areas of the building will reduce energy use.

Externally, the plans aim to integrate the NSC with the rest of Crystal Palace Park, for example by providing a step-free loop ascending from ground level to the existing high level walkway.

Bromley Council have already received over 500 comments on the proposals, broadly in favour. Amongst the exceptions are motor sports fans who oppose further erosion of links with Crystal Palace’s past as a motor racing venue..and ambition of the redevelopment.

The GLA capital spending plan envisages investing £102 million over the next three years, with the existing NSC closed for around two years.

The CPCA has been calling for investment in the NSC for many years, so we are delighted to see these plans and we support them.
